Dulce Chacón / Statement
Mi trabajo reflexiona sobre la documentación visual de eventos históricos y la memoria colectiva, en diálogo con la materia vegetal y la biodiversidad. Desde el 2019 desarrollo proyectos desde una perspectiva etnobotánica y ecosomática produciendo piezas que se enfocan en la interacción entre el mundo vegetal y el simbólico. Mi proceso parte de la realidad fáctica haciendo especulaciones e imaginando posibilidades plásticas para mostrar el entramado de relaciones de las que emerge la cosmovisión cultural.

Dulce Chacón (Ciudad de México, 1976)
Estudia Artes Visuales FAD, UNAM (1994-1998). Integrante del colectivo de Arte Atlético (1998-2003). Integrante del Programa Educativo SOMA (2010-2012) donde posteriormente realiza la Coordinación Académica (2015-2017). Diplomado de Ilustración científica (2019). Integrante del grupo de estudio “El dibuje” (2019-2024). Maestría en Investigación en docencia en artes y Diseño, FAD, UNAM (2022-2024).
Ha expuesto su obra en foros nacionales e internacionales, entre las que destacan: At the forest edge, Kentler international drawing space, N.York (2025); ¿Dónde está nuestro abrigo?, Museo de Geología, CDMX (2023); Caminos que no conducen a Roma, 14ª. Bienal de la Habana, Cuba (2021); Manila Biennale, Open City, Intramuros, Manila, Filipinas (2018) y MATRIX 175, Fallen Angels, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, Connecticut, E.U.A. (2016).
Ha realizado residencias artísticas en Na Bolom, Chiapas, México (2020); Bienal Tlatelolca, CDMX (2019); Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, Shropshire, Reino Unido (2010) y Temenggong Artist in Residence, Singapur (2013), entre otras.
Becaria en México de Fundación Lorena A. Gallardo A.C. (1998), SOMA Programa educativo (2010-2012); Programa Bancomer MACG Arte Actual 3ª edición (2012-2014) y CONAHCYT (2022-2024).

En el año 2018 comenzó con la investigación en pensamiento gráfico Cuadernillo de Dibujo que se convirtió en un proyecto editorial. Se trata de una serie de volúmenes que recopilan ejercicios de dibujo redactados por artistas visuales que viven en México y que están relacionados con su producción.
Así mismo le ha interesado la actividad pedagógica en diálogo y como extensión de su actividad artística. Sus talleres de dibujo son espacios de acción con enfoques pedagógicos experimentales que relacionan al arte con otras áreas de conocimiento tales como la biología, la literatura, la historia y la arqueología.
Miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte, FONCA.

My work reflects on the visual documentation of historical events and collective memory, in dialogue with plant matter and biodiversity. Since 2019, I have been developing projects from an ethnobotanical and ecosomatic perspective, producing works that focus on the interaction between the plant world and the symbolic realm. My process begins with factual reality, making speculations and imagining artistic possibilities to reveal the network of relationships from which cultural worldviews emerge.

Dulce Chacón (Mexico city, 1976)
B.A. in Visual Arts, Faculty of Arts and Design, UNAM, Mexico city (1994-1998). Diploma in Illustration for Science, UNAM, (2019). Master's Degree in Teaching Research in Art and Design (2022-2024). Member of Athletic Art collective (1998-2003) and SOMA Artist board, Mexico city.
She has exhibited her work on national and international venues among which the following: At the forest edge, Kentler international drawing space, N.York (2025), ¿Dónde está nuestro abrigo?, Geology Museum, Mexico City (2023); Caminos que no conducen a Roma, XIV Havana Biennial (2021); Manila Biennale, Open City, Intramuros, Manila, Philippines (2018) and MATRIX 175, Fallen Angels at Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A. (2016).
She attended the artist residencies at L’AiR arts residency, Paris, France (2022), Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, Shropshire, United Kingdom (2010) and Temenggong Artist in Residence, Singapore (2013) among others.
Fellow in Mexico by Lorena Alejandra Gallardo A.C. Fund (1998), SOMA Educative program (2010-2012); Programa Bancomer MACG Arte Actual 3rd. edition (2012-2014) and CONAHCYT (2022-2024).
Her work is part of public and private collections such as: Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, Connecticut, USA; L’AiR arts, Paris, France; Benetton Collection, Italy; Museo Amparo, Puebla; Carrillo Gil Art Museum, Mexico city; Bank of Mexico; Printmaking museum and ARKHEIA, MUAC, Mexico city, among others.
In 2018 she started the research in graphic thinking Cuadernillo de Dibujo which is an editorial project. It is a series of volumes that compile drawing exercises written by visual artists living in Mexico and related to their production.
She is also interested in teaching as a form of dialogue and as an extension of his artistic practice. Her drawing workshops are spaces for hands-on learning with experimental pedagogical approaches that connect art with other fields of knowledge, such as biology, literature, history, and archaeology.
